Maldives Signs Blue Planet Climate Agreement to Advance Renewable Energy Transition

The Maldives has signed the Blue Planet Climate Agreement, a global initiative by the Blue Planet Alliance aimed at accelerating the shift to renewable energy. The agreement was signed by Vice President Hussein Mohamed Latheef during his official visit to Hawaii, United States.
While the agreement is non-binding, it reflects the Maldives’ commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy generation by the year 2045. As part of the agreement, the Blue Planet Alliance will support signatory countries in building capacity for renewable energy production and in developing sustainable energy policies.
The Blue Planet Alliance was established in 2020 by renowned video game designer and entrepreneur Henk Rogers, best known for acquiring the rights to the classic video game Tetris and creating The Black Onyx. The organization focuses on climate advocacy, encouraging nations to adopt clean energy solutions to combat global climate challenges.
