President Seeks Parliamentary Approval to Appoint Mahloof as Ambassador to Japan

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sought parliamentary approval to appoint former Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof as the Maldivian Ambassador to Japan.
Under the Foreign Service Act, ambassadors are appointed by the President with the approval of the Parliament. Mahloof’s nomination has now been referred to the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament for consideration.
Mahloof has been active in the political arena for several years. He began his political career under former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s now-defunct Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP). He later joined the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and served as the Minister of Youth and Sports in the previous administration. He left the MDP and recently joined the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) at a special rally held on 14 November.
