17th AOSSG Annual Meeting Begins in the Maldives

The 17th Asian-Oceanian Standard Setters Group Annual Meeting, organised by the Chartered Accountants of Maldives (CA Maldives) and held in the Maldives for the first time, has commenced.
The two-day meeting is being held at Villa Nautica Resort with over 40 delegates from 17 countries. The purpose of the meeting is to hold discussions on strengthening accounting systems, aligning regional standards with international standards, addressing emerging changes in accounting at global and regional levels, and presenting technical papers related to accounting standard-setting.
The meeting was inaugurated by Auditor General Hussain Niyazi, with Dr Andreas Barckow, Chair of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) as the Special Guest.
Speaking at the ceremony, Auditor General Niyazi noted that the Maldives joined the Asian-Oceanian Standard Setters Group during his tenure as the President of CA Maldives. He called for transparency, robust accounting, and accountability in the preparation of financial statements. He also called for the introduction of sustainable reporting or the preparation of financial statements for environmental sustainability.
In his remarks, CA Maldives President Mohamed Haleem Abdullah stated that Asian-Oceanian Standard Setters Group is not just a technical body but also a platform that assists and empowers small countries. He emphasised the value of experience sharing and ensuring the international accounting framework remains inclusive, equitable, and forward-looking.
