President discusses key development priorities with Vilufushi Island Council, WDC, and institutional heads

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the Vilufushi Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions to discuss key issues affecting residents. The meeting took place at the Secretariat of the Vilufushi Council.
During the meeting, council members highlighted the island’s most urgent development priorities. They requested that the newly built 100 housing units be handed over to beneficiaries once water, sewerage, and electricity services are in place. The council further called for the excavation and extension of the harbour, the construction of a jetty for small dinghies, and the relocation of the island’s mosque to establish an Islamic Centre.
Further requests included the establishment of a Maldives National University campus on the island, and the development of an artificial beach or picnic island. Members also highlighted the space constraints in the council office, the lack of adequate sports facilities, and called for the modernisation of the island’s roads as well as the completion of harbour pavement works.
The President assured participants that the Government would take these concerns into consideration. He was accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises, who also provided updates on ongoing development projects.
