Work has started to launch the largest fish dhoani in Maldives into the sea.
The work of this dhoani which has modern facilities and latest technologies was done in G.Dh. Thinadhoo. The owner of this dhoani is a person named Mohamed Zahir.
Speaking to “Vaguthu”، Zahir’s brother Ali Zahir said that all essential work to launch the dhoani into the sea is ongoing and that the dhoani will be launched some time tomorrow.
“First، the dhoani was attempted to be launched using plastic containers. But since the dhoani did not move forward، now work is done to launch the dhoani by keeping metal rolls of wood and using an excavator. Dhoani has moved forward a lot now”، said Ali Zahir.
According to Ali Zahir، the length of this dhoani is 120 ft، width is 34 ft and at the time of completion، the total work of the dhoani will sum up to a worth of MVR 10 million.
Ali Zahir said that the work of building this dhoani was delayed due to decline in fishing and the construction work of the dhoani being halted at different times.
“This dhoani will do fishing at national level. This dhoani will be active in every place where fishing is carried out in Maldives”، said Ali Zahir.
He also said that 50 people will work on the dhoani and that the workers will be youth.
Moreover، he said that complete cooperation is received from the island council and citizens of the island in launching this dhoani and thanked the council and citizens for it.
