Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has said that India is unbiased regarding the jailing of former president Mohamed Nasheed who was proven guilty of terror charges.
In an interview to an Indian newspaper called “The Hindu”، Maldivian Foreign Minister said that India is unbiased regarding Nasheed’s case and that India reacted very justly to Nasheed’s arrest.
Nuha said that jailing Nasheed has not obstructed the relationship between Maldives and India at all and that the strong relationship which was present before still remains intact.
Dunya noted in her interview that India is a country who expects the independence and sovereignty of Maldives.
Speaking further، Dunya said that Nasheed’s legal team tries to gain political benefits in the trips they make to India، and that India has not given them that chance. Dunya said that this proves that India is acting justly regarding this case.
Dunya said that United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention called for the release of Nasheed without taking into consideration important things presented by the Maldivian government and that adhering to UN Working Group’s decision is not compulsory. Dunya also said that the government will be answerable regarding that decision.
