Amnesty pins blame on FIFA and Qatar over 2022 World Cup prep works

Amnesty International claims that world football governing FIFA has failed in demonstrating commitment to ensuring the Qatar 2022 is “not built on a foundation of exploitation and abuse.”
Back in 2010، the Gulf state had won the rights to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar، since then both it and FIFA has attracted a lot of levels of headaches.
Qatar and FIFA have been forced to answer questions regarding the allegations made regarding poor working conditions of immigrant workers brought into build the World Cup facilities. Apart from this، questions have been raised on the validity of the host-country bidding process، which had seen Russia winning the host country title for 2018 World Cup.
According to the human rights group، Amnesty’s report، FIFA has failed in revealing definitive details of oversight ensuring that Qatar keeps its promise in improving working conditions and legislate against mistreatment against the workers involved.
An estimate of 1.5 million migrant workers will be integral to constructing the Qatar 2022 World Cup facilities on time.
According to Amnesty’s report; “Without prompt action، the pledges Qatar made last year are at serious risk of being dismissed as a mere public relations stunt to ensure the Gulf state can cling on to the 2022 World Cup.”
Following the whole backlash involved with FIFA and Qatar، Mustafa Qadri، Gulf migrant rights researcher at Amnesty International said “Qatar is failing migrant workers. Last year the government made promises to improve migrant labor rights in Qatar، but in practice، there have been no significant advances in the protection of rights.”
Meanwhile، Qatar’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has dissed with the number of claims made by Amnesty.
