President extends condolences following the passing of Ibrahim Rashad, recipient of the Honorary Title for Longtime Public Service

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of Ibrahim Rashad and those who worked alongside him. A distinguished State dignitary and recipient of the Honorary Title for Longtime Public Service, Ibrahim Rashad passed away this afternoon at the age of 78, after a prolonged illness.
In a post on X, President Dr Muizzu described the late Ibrahim Rashad as a visionary and exemplary leader who carried out every State responsibility with diligence, integrity, and foresight. Mourning the loss of an invaluable and deeply experienced veteran, the President highlighted Ibrahim Rashad's pioneering efforts more than two decades ago to modernise public administration and enhance service delivery at a time when technological resources were severely limited. He further noted that Ibrahim Rashad's steadfast adherence to institutional principles and his unwavering honesty earned him the enduring trust of both the public and State leadership.
Over an illustrious career spanning more than 45 years, Ibrahim Rashad served the State in numerous senior capacities. His appointments included serving as Atoll Chief of Faadhippolhu Atoll and Kolhumadulu Atoll, and as Commissioner of Elections, a role he dedicatedly held for over six years. He concluded his State service as Minister of State, Principal Collector of Customs, retiring on 4 September 2008.
Ibrahim Rashad began his public service career on 26 June 1961 as a clerk at the Ministry of Trade and Commerce. He subsequently served as a clerk at the Ministry of Education, a secretary at the Ministry of Finance, and a secretary at the Airport Office. He also served as English Secretary for the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and Radio Maldives, and held corporate and regional administration roles as a manager at the State Trading Organisation (STO) and as Legal Counsel at the Northern Regional Office.
His extensive portfolio also included key leadership roles within the Ministry of Provincial Affairs, the Ministry of Atolls Administration, and provincial development units, where he contributed to regional development as Senior Under-Secretary, Vice-Chairman of the Atolls Development Advisory Board, Projects Director, and Director of the Selected Islands Development Unit. He also served as Director General at the Department of Elections and Managing Director at Maldives Post Limited.
Ibrahim Rashad is survived by his wife and three daughters.
