Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that he would contest in the presidential elections this year, and that no one thinks that his name would not appear on the ballot paper.
Nasheed said while speaking at a rally held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) near Olympus last night that rival political groups are saying that ‘there is no party that can defeat MDP’, and that no one thinks that his name would not appear on the ballot paper.
“No one thinks that my name would not appear on the ballot paper anymore. Rival politicians especially have been [talking] about me on TV, radio and papers. People who were challenging us until yesterday are finding out the truth about politics of the Maldives. They themselves are saying that there is no party that can defeat MDP,” he said.
Referring to the waste management problem in Male’, Nasheed said that the MDP government in 2009 awarded a waste management project to an Indian-German company following IFC’s advice and financial aid from the World Bank. He said that the company had made modern waste-management plans, but its work was halted by the current government. He said that no group is interested in giving loans or financial aid to the present government.
My name will appear on the ballot paper: Nasheed
