Indian Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra called on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday.
President's Office stated that the two parties spoke of further strengthening the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
To strengthen the relations between the countries, the Ambassador and the President discussed developments in the fields of healthcare, education, technology, sports, housing, water and sewerage. Furthermore, the two representatives had discussed empowering women and young people.
During the Ambassador's meeting with Vice-President Faisal Naseem, the Ambassador stated that India would help the government complete their first 100 day pledges. The Indian Ambassador stated that the country would provide aid for the fields of skill development, and social and education sector of Maldives.
The visit was accompanied by the Ambassador's wife.
The Ambassador and the Vice President discussed ways the talented youth of the country could be empowered through joint efforts by the two countries.
President Solih will depart on his first official trip to India on December 17. Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid’s first diplomatic mission was to India as well.
Since taking office on November 17, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has greatly improved the relationship with neighbouring India.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the inauguration ceremony of President Solih, marking his first visit to Maldives.
