The Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef departed for an official visit to Spain on Friday morning to participate in the ‘Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4)’.
The conference is scheduled to take place from 30 June to 3 July 2025 in Seville, Spain.
The Vice President is scheduled to attend the opening segment and deliver a statement during the plenary meeting of the conference. He is also expected to participate in thematic multi-stakeholder roundtables, during which he will highlight the Maldives’ efforts towards financial reform and call on the international community to support debt sustainability and ensure inclusive representation.
Additionally, he is scheduled to deliver remarks at events hosted by the Maldives on the sidelines of the conference. Senior Government officials from the Maldives will also represent the country and participate in high-level engagements throughout the conference.
FfD4 serves as a platform for high-level discussions on financial reform, bringing together governments, international and regional organisations, financial and trade institutions, businesses, civil society, and the United Nations system. The previous iteration of the conference was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2015.
