Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has banned the movement of large vehicles during the voting period on Saturday, September 30, when the second round of the presidential election will be held.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, the ministry said that they decided to ban the movement of large four-wheeled vehicles on Saturday as they contributed to heavy traffic, making it difficult for individuals to cast their votes and the administration and security forces to do their jobs efficiently.
The notification said that from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Saturday, movement of large vehicles in Malé is prohibited.
Vehicles that fit the categories of C2, C0, D, E, and V are restricted. These include large vans, cars, vehicles used for the transportation of goods, and construction vehicles.
However, the ministry said vehicles belonging to security forces falling under these categories and those used to provide public services to government agencies will not be prohibited during these hours.
According to the ministry, vehicles found violating these rules will be fined MVR 750 under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The second round of polling will be held from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 30.
