The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel met with Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya to discuss on strengthening the relationship between the two nations.
Minister Khaleel met with his Kuwaiti counterpart during his ongoing official visit to Kuwait, where he had expressed admiration for the deep-rooted brotherly ties between the Maldives and Kuwait.
The two ministers engaged in extensive discussions on advancing the Maldives-Kuwait relationship, which will be marking 48 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the bilateral cooperation in key areas including tourism, trade and investment, renewable energy, health, aviation, and people-to-people exchanges.
During the meeting, Minister Khaleel conveyed his deep appreciation for the enduring support and partnership extended by the Kuwaiti government to the Maldives, particularly in socio-economic development. He also highlighted the significant contributions of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to key development projects, such as the expansion of Velana International Airport (VIA) and health sector developments.
The minister further reiterated Maldives’ interest in expanding cooperation through new investments, primarily in renewable energy and infrastructure development.
The ministers concluded their meeting while expressing confidence in the continued growth of the Maldives-Kuwait relations and the shared aspirations of both countries in enhancing cooperation for mutual benefit.
