Maldives Police Service has confiscated a total of 103 cardboard boxes containing tobacco from a Male’ City residence.
The law enforcement authority raided a Male’ City residence, H. Hulhugali, after receiving reports that illegal cigarette production activities were being carried out in the house.
Police received reports that the activity was carried out within the premises of a private office the building houses. Police raided the venue through a court order.
Although the authority confirmed grabbing the items, they did not provide additional details about the case.
Cigarette prices skyrocketed after the government increased duties on tobacco products. Demand for cigarettes ballooned after the government imposed a total ban on vape products.
Recently, another incident of underselling contrabanded cigarettes was reported to authorities.
