The Juvenile Court has said that verdicts will be delivered on 6 February 2013 against the four minors charged with terrorism by the State following the arson attack on Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo Police Station on 8 February 2012.
An official of Juvenile Court told Sun Online that both the defendants and the State presented their concluding statements at the trial held today.
Since this completes the hearings on this case, the court has announced that the verdicts will be delivered on 6 February, said the official.
The four minors, who have now turned 18, are charged by the State for attacking the police officers at Thinadhoo Police Station and causing damage the Police Station building and property, between 4.30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on 8 February 2012.
The four suspects have denied these charges.
The Thinadhoo Police Station, the vehicles at the Police Station, Gaafu Dhaalu Council Office, and Thinadhoo Magistrate Court were completely destroyed in the arson attacks on 8 February 2012.
The four minors have been charged under Articles 2 (f), 2 (g) and 6 (b) of the Terrorism Prevention Act.
The penalty prescribed in the Terrorism Prevention Act for convicts of this crime is imprisonment or exile for 10 to 15 years.
However since the suspects were minors when they committed the crime, they can only be given two-third of the lowest possible punishment for any crime.
The State has charged 89 people, including councillors and civil servants, with terrorism following the arson attacks in Thinadhoo on 8 February 2012.
