President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, following the attacks on Holey Artisan Café.
The President’s message reads as follows:
“It was with deep shock and sorrow that I received the distressing news of the terrorist attack on Holey Artisan Café, causing the loss of innocent lives and traumatizing many others. The Government and the people of Maldives join me in condemning this cowardly act of terror in the strongest terms, and we express our firm solidarity with Bangladesh in all its efforts to maintain national peace and harmony.”
“We are fully committed to the global fight against terrorism and militant extremism and we will continue to work closely with the Bangladeshi Government and the whole international community in eliminating the menace.”
“During this period of grief, I would like to convey my heartfelt sympathy to Your Excellency, the Government and the brotherly people of Bangladesh. Please also extend my sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
President to exchange Eid-ul-Fitr greetings with members of the general public
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will exchange greetings with members of the general public on the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr. The President will meet the public from 0830 to 0930 hrs at Islamic Centre.
According to the President’s Office, this invitation is open to Maldivians of all ages, as well as members of foreign diplomatic missions, international organizations and members of non-governmental organizations.
