FIFA election scheduled for February 26، 2016

FIFA moves towards for a presidency election، which has been scheduled for 26th February 2016.
The election comes due to the recent elected president، Sepp Blatter – who secured the position for the fifth consecutive time – decided to stand down amid corruption scandal.
A new FIFA president will be elected at the Extraordinary Congress which will take place on February next year. The decision was made by during the Extraordinary General Meeting of the governing body، yesterday.
The outgoing president Blatter had laid down his mandate back in June، just four days after he won the election for the fifth time in a row beating Prince Ali bin Hussein.
However، Sepp Blatter had decided to step down from his position in the wake of a corruption probe of 14 people، which includes nine of FIFA’s top-ranking officials – who have been indicted with charges of racketeering conspiracy and corruption just two days ahead of the recent presidency election.
Blatter’s presidency at FIFA will come to an end in the next seven month’s time، with Uefa president Michel Platini widely hailed to as the front-runner for the elections، though he had not confirmed of running for the position – he is reported to have the support of Europe، South America، Asia as well as the Concacaf Federation.
At the moment it is unclear who will be going up against Platini but former Brazil international Zico has also expressed wishes to stand in for presidency of FIFA.
