President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated Spain's King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón following the country's victory at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
In separate messages, the president described the achievement as a testament to the talent, dedication and sporting excellence of the Spanish national football team.
He said football was immensely popular in the Maldives and that the Spanish national team enjoyed widespread admiration among Maldivians. He added that Spain's victory had been celebrated with great joy across the country, further strengthening the friendship and close ties between the Maldives and Spain.
President Muizzu also expressed his appreciation for the warm and enduring friendship between the two countries, highlighting the valuable contributions made by Spanish visitors and partners to the continued growth of the Maldives' tourism industry.
He concluded his messages by wishing King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez good health and well-being, and the people of Spain continued peace, prosperity and progress.
