MNU launches three new health degree programmes

The Maldives National University (MNU) has introduced three new degree programmes in areas where there is a shortage of health professionals.
The new courses are BSc in Paramedics, BSc (Hons) in Speech Language Pathology, and Bachelor in Occupational Therapy.
The programmes were launched at a ceremony attended by senior MNU officials, including Vice Chancellor Dr Aishath Shehenaz and the Dean of Faculty of Health and Sciences Dr Aishath Shanoora.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor said the courses are an investment in the future of the country’s health sector and aim to address critical workforce shortages. She described the introduction of the courses as a significant achievement for the university in their efforts to strengthen the country’s health sector.
The Paramedics programme is a 3-year programme with six semesters, focused on emergency pre-hospital care. The Speech Language Pathology programme is a four-years programme and will train speech therapists. The Occupational Therapy programme runs for four years, and focuses helping individuals develop the skills needed for daily living and everyday activities.
The entry requirements include a minimum of two A-Level passes. Applicants to the Speech Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy programmes must have passes in two science-stream subjects. Additional physical and mental assessments will be required for the paramedics programme.
MNU said all courses are accredited by the Allied Health Council and are full-time programmes. Applications are now open via the MNU admissions portal.
