A yearlong program to instill positive behavior among school students – which Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu named as one of the most important initiatives planned for the academic new year – is set to commence in February.
Shafeeu made the announcement during a ceremony held on Tuesday morning to mark the opening of Shaheed Ali School – a new public school developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
Addressing the ceremony, Shafeeu said the Education Ministry will be conducting a program to instill positive behavior among school students throughout the academic year.
He described it as the most important initiative planned for the year, and said it will commence next month.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shafeeu urged teachers to teach students be more self-responsible and independent towards their own education.
“We really need to change this approach to always spoon feed and keep students under constant watch. That is how their ideals and thinking will develop,” he said.
Shafeeu said that a generation that is responsible towards their own education will also demonstrate the same responsibility towards their work and personal life.
The planned behavior program comes after a fight broke out between a teacher and school student in December, leading to public discourse over workplace safety, bullying, and the importance of instilling positive behavior among students.
