Will not stop the work to create an administrative framework for nurses : Health Minister

Health Minister Abdullah Nazim have said that the government will not stop the work to create an administrative frame work for nurses working in Maldives.
Speaking at a ceremony held last night to mark International Nurses Day, the minister said that it is too late even now to create such a framework. He said that there are challenges. Furthermore, the minister said that once the framework is formed, it will encourage the nurses to continue serving.
Nazim said that even now there are 2000 nurses in Maldives and out of that 40 percent are foreigners. Nazim said that 200 nurses are trained in the Maldives annually and the government wants to make 100 percent of the nurses serving in Maldives to be Maldivian. He said that hence the government will increase training programs.
In addition, Nazim said that the most memorable awards in his life are the two awards given to 2 nurses who has served for more than 40 years. Nazim praised the nurses a lot in last night’s ceremony. He said that 99 percent of the Maldivian babies are delivered on to the hands of the nurses. In addition he said that 90 percent of the people who pass away, passes away while nurses are treating them. He said that hence it should be noted.
