A total of 6 officials of FIFA has been arrested over corruption charges.
According to media reports، among the arrested includes current Vice President of FIFA Jeffrey Webb and former Vice President Jack Warner.
The officials were arrested from the Bauer Au Lac hotel situated in Zurich، Switzerland.
In a statement released by Swiss Federal Office for Justice (SFOJ)، the officials have been arrested over a prolonging events of corruption cases since 1990 onwards carried out by the said officials.
Furthermore، FOJ reports these officials had used US Bank accounts in order to deposit the transactions they had extracted off of “under-the-table” deals. States had personally requested for the arrest of these officials، according to reports.
FIFA had been absent for a comment on the matter، however they had confirmed the association will hold a press briefing sometime today in order to deliver their perspective and knowledge on the case.
The arrest comes amid when FIFA officials are gathering up for a congress، with the next president of the association getting selected in the said congress as well.
Currently the two candidates running for presidency of FIFA are the current President Sepp Blatter and Jordanian prince Ali bin Al Hussein.
