President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that teaching at Arabiyya School will begin in the next academic year once practical work on the school is completed.
The President made these remarks while speaking at a gathering following the the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) victory in the election to choose the President of Meedhoo Council.
He said that the philosophy of the current government is a national vision that elevates the noble religion of Islam and advances the country.
The President added that the government is actively implementing policies aimed at elevating religion and supporting it, establishing stability in the country, achieving development, and ensuring security in every sense.
He further stated that since the first government of the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), Islamic education had been undermined, and that students and parents of Arabiyya School had been left distressed.
However, he noted that under the current government’s constructive approach, a permanent large plot of land has now been allocated for Arabiyya School, and construction of the school is progressing rapidly.
He confirmed that teaching at the school will begin in the coming academic year.
The new Arabiyya School building, which is being developed as a 10-storey structure, will include 42 classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, four lifts, and all other necessary facilities required for a modern school, according to the government.
In his speech, the President criticised the policies of previous governments, saying that the current administration is working to correct past mistakes.
He also highlighted reforms within the police service, stating that efforts are underway to improve the standard of service and ensure officers properly fulfil their responsibilities.
He added that previously there had been a policy of disrespect towards the military, but that the current government’s approach is to regard the armed forces as a source of national pride and to further strengthen their service.
Addressing the issue of expatriates, the President said that in the past the government did not even know how many foreign workers were in the Maldives.
However, over the past two years, efforts have been made to resolve issues relating to foreign workers, and many expatriates living in the country unlawfully have been deported.
The President said that through such efforts, long-standing unresolved issues are being addressed and the country is being developed and improved.
He added that citizens will clearly see who is carrying out these efforts and which policies should be prioritised for the benefit of the nation.
