Addu City and Huizhuo City of Guangdong Province, China is to establish sister relationship.
The Mayor of Addu City Abdullah Sodiq and Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Mr.Wang Fukand met today to discuss the matter. In addition, the director of Addu City Council, Muhammad Saudy Hassan took part in the meeting.
In the meeting, Chinese Ambassador expressed interest in forming relations between Huizhuo City and Adu City. He said that such relations will be beneficial to both cities. The Ambassador gave the mayor an MOU on establishing a sister city relationship.
Speaking at the meeting, the mayor said that Addu City is very small compared to Huizhuo city but said that Addu City can benefit from this relation. He said that with the recent developments to the airport of Addu City, it will be easier to strengthen relations with Addu and China.
Under this relation, both cities will assist each other in areas like environmental protection, tourism, and trade. Addu City Council said that as soon as it get approved by the Council, they will sign the MOU.
