Judge files second case over suspension

The court Sunday dismissed the case earlier filed by Shareef after he failed to attend the hearing. Sources say that Shareef has once again sought an injunction over the Judicial Service Commission’s (JSC) decision to suspend him indefinitely as a “precautionary” measure due to an administrative complaint filed against him last year by seven High Court judges. Shareef earlier asked the court to terminate the suspension as there were many procedural issues, including the presence at the meeting of dishonoured civil service chief Mohamed Fahmy Hassan and newly-appointed Attorney General Aishath Bisham, who was yet to receive parliament approval. His suspension came hours after the High Court cancelled a hearing into the case filed by former President Mohamed Nasheed challenging the legitimacy of the panel of judges presiding over the case against him for the arbitrary detention of chief criminal judge Abdulla Mohamed. JSC has appointed High Court judge Abdu Rauf Ibrahim as the court’s acting chief judge.
