MET cautions on sea travel during bad weather

In a statement, MET said that a large part of Maldives - mostly central and southern parts of the country - would experience heavy rainfall due to a low pressure trough in the region. The authority reported an estimated 98 millimetres of rainfall to Male and 39 millimetres of rainfall to Gan in Addu, recorded in 24 hours from 8am on Monday to 8am Tuesday. MET forecasts heavy rain to continue for the next 48 hours with thunder and moderate to rough seas. Wind is expected to blow from west to southwest at 14 miles per hour. While the rain continues to pelt different areas of the Maldives, Tuesday marked the beginning of ‘Kethi’, the third Nakaiy (chapter) in the southwest monsoon.
