Maldivian Targets Malé-Colombo Corridor With USD 99 Fares and Added Perks

National carrier Maldivian has announced a sharp reduction in fares on its Colombo service, part of a wider effort to strengthen its position in regional aviation. The carrier confirmed that its Airbus A320 aircraft will operate the route, with tickets priced from USD 99. Flights are scheduled for 7 and 9 December.
The airline said the initiative is intended not only to capture market share but also to improve the quality of service offered to passengers. Maldivian has stated its ambition to become the preferred carrier between Malé and Colombo, pairing competitive fares with enhanced benefits. Travellers on the Colombo service will receive a complimentary baggage allowance of 35 kilogrammes per person, a measure the airline believes will ease travel for Maldivian citizens and support tourism links with Sri Lanka.
The carrier’s expansion extends beyond Colombo. Maldivian has scheduled special holiday-season flights to Bangkok, Thailand, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with services operating throughout December and January. The airline anticipates that these routes will meet heightened demand during the festive period and broaden its international reach.
Underlying these announcements is Maldivian’s fleet of 25 aircraft, comprising one wide-body Airbus A330, one narrow-body Airbus A320, five ATR aircraft, eight Dash 8 aircraft, and eleven Dash 6 Twin Otter aircraft.
