President Dr Muizzu shares a message on International Day of Clean Energy

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has shared a message on the occasion of International Day of Clean Energy.
The President’s message reads as follows:
Quote
As we observe the International Day of Clean Energy today, let us reflect on the significance of this day, to reduce global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and transiting to clean energy, to protect our planet. As a low-lying island nation, acutely vulnerable to climate change, investing in renewable energy sources is a vital commitment for the future of the Maldives.
The Maldives has made great strides in advancing renewable energy, particularly through solar power initiatives. We have set an ambitious target of generating 33 per cent of the country’s electricity through renewable sources by 2028. The Energy Act and the roadmap for the energy sector outline the nation's plan to ensure that energy supply is sufficient, reliable, sustainable, secure, and affordable. Our private sector has demonstrated its commitment through investments in renewable energy, and I encourage them to continue with this dedication. These efforts not only contribute to global climate goals but also bolster our energy security and economic resilience.
I also extend my gratitude to our financing partners across the globe, for their support in transforming our clean energy aspirations into reality. Small Island Developing States need this support to be increased in the coming years.
I reaffirm the Government’s commitment to protecting our islands, fostering a healthier environment and establishing the Maldives as an example for other nations to follow and strive towards clean energy for the greater benefit of the nation and planet.
