President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised the importance of investing in preventive healthcare, stating that his Government is prioritising measures to facilitate better public health.
Speaking on the second edition of Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast, the President emphasised the need to place preventive healthcare at the forefront of the health sector.
He highlighted that one of the most significant contributions to public health is preventing younger generations from taking up smoking. He also outlined plans to promote healthier lifestyles by ensuring access to nutritious food, including fresh fruits and vegetables. Additionally, he stressed the benefits of swimming for overall well-being and noted that projects are underway to establish swimming facilities on islands where such amenities are lacking.
Furthermore, the President announced that an outdoor gym would be established on every inhabited island by next year. To encourage outdoor activities and strengthen family bonds, children’s parks are also being developed to support both physical and mental well-being. He shared plans for the refurbishment of Sultan Park, which will be enhanced with adventurous features.
He reaffirmed that the Government’s initiatives in sports and exercise align with its broader goal of strengthening preventive healthcare. He added that efforts are underway to expand Dhamanaveshi services to every atoll, adopting a holistic approach to healthcare. These measures aim to reduce the need for frequent doctor visits while improving access to healthcare services within the Maldives.
Acknowledging the challenges that currently force many to seek medical treatment abroad, the President stressed the importance of developing local healthcare facilities to ensure essential treatments are available within the country.
