Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to amend regulations to make it mandatory to have dedicated prayer spaces in large buildings being constructed in Hulhumalé.
Regarding this matter, Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that having prayer rooms in residential buildings across different areas of Hulhumalé is necessary. "In some Islamic countries, commercial buildings and shopping malls have special prayer areas. Therefore, having such spaces in a 100% Muslim country like Maldives is essential," the Minister said.
The Minister further noted that since there isn't a mosque near every building in Hulhumalé, people often face difficulties in performing prayers. Therefore, having prayer spaces within buildings would be a great convenience for both residents and visitors, according to the Minister.
The Minister extended special thanks to HDC's Managing Director for taking the initiative in advancing this important project. He also made prayers for the success of this endeavor.
