Shafiu resigns from role as deputy fisheries minister

Ahmed Shafiu has resigned from his role as a deputy minister at the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.
Shafiu confirmed to Sun that he tendered his letter of resignation to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday morning.
But he declined to publicly disclose the reason for his decision.
“I explained the reason for my resignation in my letter to the president. I do not wish to make any further comment regarding my decision,” he told Sun.
Shafiu as appointed as a deputy fisheries minister on November 26, 2023. He had headed the ministry’s media department as well as several training programs.
Between 2013 and 2018, he worked as a school teacher in his home island of GA. Gemanafushi – a fishing community.
He later got involved in fisheries, and owns a commercial fishing vessel and runs a fisheries website.
