Shangri-La Resort Reopens in Line with President’s Pledge

In accordance with the presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Shangri-La Villingili Resort & Spa in Addu City officially reopened today following extensive renovations. This marks the first time the resort has opened its doors since its closure in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Upon its reopening today, a warm welcome was extended to the first tourist to visit the resort. Featuring a total of 132 villas, the property is recognized as one of the most high-end luxury resorts in the Maldives.
The Ministry of Tourism noted that the reopening of this resort is a significant boost to the economy of Addu. The Ministry further stated that this development will open up numerous employment opportunities for the residents of Addu.
Shangri-La Villingili was closed in April 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Following its closure, more than 500 employees lost their jobs at the time.
Bringing this resort back into operation was one of the most significant pledges made by President Muizzu to the people of Addu during his 2023 presidential campaign.
