In a significant boost to the nation's healthcare infrastructure, the development of a state-of-the-art 500-bed multispecialty hospital in Hulhumale' Phase 2 is scheduled to commence by the middle of this year.
The project, a key pledge from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s this year’s presidential address, is now moving into its active development phase.
President Muizzu announced the progress during his weekly press conference at the President’s Office, confirming that technical and financial arrangements for the major facility are currently underway. The hospital is designed to be a comprehensive medical hub, featuring advanced specialist services.
According to the President, a cornerstone of the new hospital will be its advanced oncology unit, complete with a radiation chamber and a dedicated cancer treatment system. Additionally, the facility will house specialised departments for pediatrics and gynecology, significantly expanding the range of care available to women and children.
The hospital will also offer a wide array of critical care options, including various services for pregnant women, family planning, treatment for premature babies, and the management of special diseases in children. It will also provide essential screening services for breast and cervical cancer, as well as advanced fertility treatments like IUI and IVF.
The development is being pursued with international cooperation with the President noting that a building plan has already been submitted for construction under the Indian Line of Credit (LOC).
The Male' City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem had said that proposals are being actively received and that the public will see the hospital completed within the current presidential term.
Once operational, the facility will become the first full-fledged hospital in Hulhumale' Phase 2, supplementing the existing clinic run by Hulhumale' Hospital and a planned new GP clinic, marking a transformative step in enhancing specialised medical care for the growing population.
