President arrives in Germany on official visit

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has arrived in Germany on a five-day official visit, undertaken at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit, President Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to hold high-level talks with Frank-Walter Steinmeier and senior members of the Germany’s government. Discussions are expected to focus on areas of mutual interest, including diplomacy, economic cooperation and global challenges.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the long-standing relationship between the Maldives and Germany. As part of the programme, the President will visit Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he will deliver a lecture on the Maldives’ experience in adapting to climate change. He is also scheduled to address the German Council on Foreign Relations, presenting the Maldives’ perspective on international policy issues, including the role of the ocean in foreign affairs.
President Muizzu is accompanied by a delegation comprising Cabinet ministers, senior government officials and members of the Maldivian business community.
A business forum is also planned during the visit, bringing together business leaders from both countries. The forum will highlight trade and investment opportunities in the Maldives and explore avenues for deeper economic engagement.
The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, which were formally established on 5 July 1966.
