President briefed on difficulties in clearing goods at Male’ Commercial Harbor

Customs clearance service providers, on Thursday, has briefed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on the difficulties faced when clearing goods at Male’ Commercial Harbor.
President Muizzu met with senior officials from customs clearance service providers operating at Malé Commercial Harbour on Thursday.
During the meeting held at the President’s Office, the officials ere given the opportunity to voice their concerns over offloading and cargo clearance procedures. They pointed to challenges related to operating hours, cargo-handling equipment, and other administrative issues.

The President assured the officials that the government would work closely with them to resolve the concerns raised.
At a meeting with SME entrepreneurs on December 17th, the President reviewed concerns raised and announced two major decisions: extending the demurrage-free period for imported goods from 80 hours to 124 hours, and introducing 24-hour goods clearance services.
Accordingly, the Maldives Customs Service began 24-hour goods clearance operations on December 25th.
The President also said arrangements will be made for good clearance using private vehicles.
