Former Presidents of the Maldives have extended greetings to the Maldivian people on the occasion of the country’s 60th Independence Day.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih conveyed his congratulations in a social media post, sending heartfelt greetings to the people of the Maldivees. He emphasised the importance of enhancing the country and its peoples’ prosperity to ensure that the Maldives remains a fully independent nation. He also expressed hope that that the people of the Maldives will always have the final say in national, determine the direction and destination of the ship of nationalism, and shaping the future for themselves.
Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom also shared Independence Day greetings. In a post shared on social media, he wished the people of the Maldives a happy 60th Independence Day. He also prayed that for his beloved country to remain forever free and independent.
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom posted a message expressing his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all Maldivians on this proud occasion. Former President Mohamed Nasheed also sent Independence Day greetings with the public via social media.
The Independence Day of the Maldives is celebrated on the 26 July every year. This day commemorates the country’s liberation from British protectorate status in 1965, after 77 years under British protection.
