Presidential Election 2013: Sun decides to place monitors in all islands, invites applications

Sun has decided to place monitors in all islands in the Maldives to cover the Presidential Election scheduled for 7 September 2013, and invited interested persons to submit applications.
Sun Media Group said in an announcement today that applications can be submitted until 17:00 on 30 June 2013. The application form has been posted on Sun Online along with this announcement.
Chief Executive Officer of Sun Online Sinaan Ali said that special efforts are ongoing towards bringing the latest news of the presidential election through Sun media, and preparations are being made to relay the latest information of the presidential election through Sun TV Plus, Sun FM and Sun Online.
“Today, we have seen the beginning of our preparations for the presidential election. We are working towards placing a Sun monitor in every island to relay fast and correct election news and results. In addition, a special page related to the election will be introduced on Sun Online very soon. Several other things will be done,” he said.
Sinaan said that an allowance will be provided to people who act as monitors on the day of voting.
Head of the election team put together by Sun, Chief Editor of Sun Online Ahmed Zahir Mohamed (Hiriga) said that Sun’s aim is to relay information and correct results of the election as soon as possible. He said that for this purpose, a network will be created to connect the members of the Sun Election Coverage Team all over the country and the Head Office of Sun Media Group in Male’.
“The problem we face always, is difficulties in obtaining results and information from the atolls. This time, we are working towards placing a monitor with the ‘Sun pass’ in every island, to provide information to Sun. That would solve a lot of problems,” he said.
Creative Director of Sun Mohamed Afzal said that in addition to relaying information on the presidential election, priority will also be given this time to involve the people in this process. In this regard, he said that arrangements will be made for the public to post opinions and audio comments online.
