China leads as top tourist market to Maldives with over 140K arrivals

According to the latest statistics by Maldives Ministry of Tourism, China is leading as the top tourist market to Maldives with a total of 140,265 arrivals so far in 2019.
The arrivals by country update from the Ministry showed that the North East Asian giant showed an overall 10.1% growth and a 16.3% of market share from January until June 2019.
India ranks as the second top tourist market to Maldives with a total arrival of 82,140 so far, and the market grew by 99.9% while the country held a market share of 9.5 percent.
Looking at the total arrivals by regions, the total arrivals from European region reached 433,847 which is a 16.5% improvement overall and held a 50.3% market share. Italy leads the European market, as the top tourist market to Maldives ranking at third spot. While Germany was at fourth place.
Total arrivals from Italy reached 75,376 with a 33.7% increase on the number of arrivals, and held a market share of 8.7 percent.
The total arrivals from Germany reached 69,237 so far in 2019 and held an overall share of 8.0% while the arrivals increase by 19.7 percent.
Looking at the arrivals, the number of female holidaymakers who visited Maldives so far in 2019 has reached 451,252 and the number of male tourists at 411,337 bringing the total number of arrivals to Maldives at 862,589 which is an 18.7% improvement over the same period in 2018.
Total bed-nights for the period of January until June 2019 reached 5,420,175 which is a 14.7% improvement over 4,723,745 bed-nights in the corresponding period last year.
The total number of tourist establishments increase from 786 in the first half of 2018 to 877 during the first half of 2019, which marked a 14.0% overall increase in beds. The total bed-capacity as of end of June 2019 has reached 48,825.
