The police service has begun probing a case involving Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Ali Naseer.
The police spokesperson said that they have begun investigating after a complaint was submitted against the Governor. However, she did not disclose any further details.
RaajjeMV understands that former head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Abdulla Ashraf, had filed the complaint against the MMA Governor, accusing him of obstructing his duties during his tenure.
Ashraf was dismissed on September 17, 2018, and is now working in MMA’s Strategic Planning and Development Projects section.
On September 13, last year, Ashraf tipped the police off on reports of illicit funds deposited to former President Abdulla Yameen’s account.
In mid-February, MP Eva Abdulla requested the parliament to summon the governor for questioning after the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) lodged cases against Yameen, at the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Police Service.
Naseer was questioned by the parliament's financial committee behind closed doors on Tuesday.
