Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy has said today that following being removed from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leadership, he will join another political party next week and ensure that the candidate of the party he joins wins the next presidential election.
Dr Ibrahim Didi, Alhan Fahmy, and Hassan Shah heavily criticised MDP at a press conference at Nalahiya Hotel held to announce their decision to leave MDP. They said that the MDP’s ‘journey to justice’ ship will sink under the guidance of its ‘spiritual leader’, and that Nasheed will not win the presidential election.
They however refused to disclose which party they were planning to join.
“We will join a party which does not say ‘this is my party’. We don’t want to join a party which belongs to a person. We will go for one which is run by party members and the people. The three of us have decided to join the same party; we were, after all, removed together,” Alhan said.
Jumhooree Party has earlier indicated that they will join JP soon, and that the basic regulation of JP has been revised to include Didi and Alhan in the party leadership.
Alhan said that the party they join will be one which is accepted by Maldivians, and that it will present a manifesto and policies which are accepted by Maldivians. And with these policies, the party candidate will win the presidential election.
He said that what exists in Maldives is not two ideas, but two ‘people’, who are former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and former President Mohamed Nasheed, and that they both have lost their rule because of their actions.
“They say, who are Alhan and Didi? Addu people? They can’t do anything. But that’s not how things will be, God willing. We will make the change necessary for this country. We will do everything possible to ensure that Mohamed Nasheed of Keneryge and Maumoon Abdul Gayoom of Kinbigasdhoshuge don’t return to power.”
