The timeline publicized in the CNI website today detailed that Nasheed had called Faseeh and ordered him to take away the police officers controlling the opposition protest at the Artificial Beach area. The timeline also claimed that the then Home Minister Hassan Afeef had made the same order on two separate occasions. But the Commissioner had informed the Minister that the situation at the scene was unstable, which the timeline reports had transpired between 11.00 – 12.00 of the night of February 6. “The Deputy Police Commissioner dispatched to assess the scene had reported back to Faseeh that the situation was quite tense. President Nasheed had called the Commissioner the second time and ordered him to take away the police officers at the artificial beach area citing that the confidence and trust in the police had now been lost. Then the Commissioner had requested the military Male area commander to deploy the military to the area as the police needed to be taken away. Commissioner then asked his deputy and head of operations to remove the police from the site of the protest,” timeline detailed. It also reports that the Police Special Operation Tactical Advisor had objected to the order to fall back as both Nasheed’s supporters and anti-government protesters gathered at the site had been seen with various forms of weapons for potential violence. With the opinion of the Tactical Advisor the police commanders had also objected to the removal of the police and stressed that the order would only be obeyed once another team is deployed to the area, timeline stated. The CNI document further revealed that Nasheed had called three separate police officers not included in the operation and ordered them to remove the police from the site. Following which, all three officers had gone down to the artificial beach area and had attempted to coerce the police officers to fall back. But the commander had reiterated that police would not leave the area until a team was dispatched in their stead. “Afterwards, Nasheed had called the Deputy Commissioner and relieved him from his duties after citing that he was unable to fulfill the entrusted responsibilities,” timeline detailed. Timeline claimed that the Male area commander Brigadier General Ibrahim Didi had taken the initiative without consultation to deploy the military to the scene. He further ordered to enforce the decision to the operations commander through the staff officer. Timeline detailed that the SO Police officers had left the artificial beach area to the Republic Square on orders of the military commander. CNI timeline further claimed that Nasheed had ordered the Male area commander to take away the military from the site after reassuring that his supporters would not create any unrest or violence. “After the order from Nasheed to fall back to headquarters, the Male area commander considering that the military might have to return to the scene had refrained from ordering the military personnel to return back to headquarters,” timeline stated. “When information of the violent clashes at the artificial beach area had been received, on orders of the Male area commander the military had deployed to the scene and controlled the protesters.” In addition, the timeline also stated that upon receiving word of the violent clashes at the artificial beach area, the Police SO officers at the Republic Square had mounted the vehicles and decided to rush to the scene without any further formal orders. “The commotion outside in Republic Square prompted the Commissioner, his deputy and other officers to rush down, while most police vehicles had left for the protest site. The deputy commissioner and head of operations had attempted to stop the remaining vehicles from leaving. The deputy commissioner had snatched the key of the last truck just as it was leaving. Following which, the police officers inside the truck had made way to the artificial beach area on foot, while a few police officers remained at the Square,” timeline detailed. After the events, Police Commissioner after consultation with the then Defence Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu had decided to arrest the Police SO commanders. Tholhath had ordered the military to arrest all police officers identified by the deputy commissioner. Hence, the timeline detailed that a squad of ten military personnel had deployed from the army barracks to arrest the police officers.
