The alleged assault on Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik during People’s Majlis Sitting on Monday، had been refuted by Medhuhenveyru MP Ali Azim.
MP Ali Azim posted a tweet earlier today stating the allegations of him assaulting MP Nihan are all false.
Earlier today، speaking with the press outside the Parliament، Nihan stated MP Azim ‘punched him’ after he attempted to stop Azim from removing the cable from a mic in the parliament chamber.
“Ali Azim got furious when I stopped him from removing a cable from a mic in the parliament chamber. If what I did was a crime، he had punished me for it، by punching me،” Nihan told the press.
He said the members present at the chamber would witness the assault.
“These actions are not supposed to be seen from members representing the citizens. If these things repeat، us (PPM/MDA) fourty to fifty members cannot sit still just watching،” he added.
Nihan further urged the Police ‘not to stand still in a distant while the members commit criminal offenses and assault on each another’.
“I urge Prosecutor General and Police to take necessary actions against such people ready to commit violence in the chambers.”
In addition، MP Nihan said he had officially filed the case in the parliament، and that he will report it to Police.
