Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed that 5000 bookings to the Maldives has been cancelled amidst the China coronavirus outbreak.
At a press conference held today at the president’s office, minister Ali Waheed stated 5556 bookings have been canceled. In addition to that, Minister of foreign affairs, Abdulla Shahid revealed that direct flights between the Maldives and China will be halted temporarily.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also met with officials of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and discussed precautionary measures put in place against the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) yesterday.
At the meeting, President Solih briefed the tourism sector stakeholders about the preventive measures undertaken by the Administration against the spread of the virus.
Likewise, President Solih highlighted that a 12-bed isolation facility in Hulhumalé Hospital and a four-bed isolated Intensive Care Unit in Dharumavantha Hospital had been set up to quarantine and treat patients in the event of the discovery of an infected individual within the Maldives.
