Chancellor of the University of Maldives Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain has said that former Foreign Minister Fathulla Jameel was well loved and respected by all his friends.
Dr Zahir Hussain spent twelve years studying in Egypt with Fathulla.
Speaking at a ceremony held last night at Islamic Centre in memory of Fathulla Jameel, Dr Zahir Hussain said that Fathulla was of an exemplary, fun character. Fathulla respected his friends, was friendly, and generally brought joy to people’s lives. All his friends loved him very much for these reasons.
“He was good at making angry people laugh,” Dr Zahir Hussain said.
He said that Fathulla was never nervous before exams, and he never memorised the contents of textbooks:
“We never saw him prepare much for exams, but he would end up getting great results.”
Dr Zahir Hussain said that they spent twelve years in the same class. They made the decision on which area to gain education after discussion between themselves, and based on what was best for the country. He noted that Fathulla was a smart, clever, academic person.
