Maldivian Umra pilgrim passes away

A Maldivian who went to Saudi Arabia to perform the holy Umra pilgrimage died early Saturday morning.
The deceased was 82-year-old Mariyam Hassan (of Soashange, GA. Dhevvadhoo). Her sponsor, Hajj Corporation, reported that her death was caused by an illness.
The Corporation’s Managing Director - Yamin Idrees - said that she had been sick even while departing for the pilgrimage, and that her condition became worse overtime during her travel from Medina to Mecca. She passed away at Wednesday 1:00 a.m. (Maldivian time) while she was about to be taken to a hospital for further treatment.
The funeral prayer for the deceased was performed after Saturday’s Fajr prayers.
According to Hajj Corporation, the Maldivians attending the Umra pilgrimage this Ramadan will be returning to the Maldives on July 7.
The Corporation had arranged five Umra trips this year, and had also provided special discounts for the Umra trip in Ramadan.
