According to the statistical reports of National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the population of Maldives has reached 341,256.
Preliminary reports publicized by the bureau, after conducting a census programe last September revealed that there are a total of 399,939 individuals residing in the country. Out of this, 341,256 are Maldivians. This marks a 1.56% rise in the total population of the country since 2006 - the year in which a census was conducted last. Back then the population of the country was 298,968.
According to the preliminary reports, for every 100 women in Maldives, there is 103 men.
The reports reveal that the total population of the atolls is 246,566. This is 57% of the total population of the country. Out of these, 208,237 people are Maldivians. The population of the atolls had rose by 0.76% since 2006.
The reports also revealed that 3.35% of the total population resides in resorts, 0.65% resides in construction areas.
