Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) on Sunday stated that the amendments proposed to the act which prohibits the use of sharp objects would conflict with the democratic system established in the country.
A statement issued by the network expressed their concern since the proposals are heading in a direction, where the rights granted to those who are apprehended and held under custody by the constitution are to be terminated. They also revealed that the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative had also expressed their concern regarding the issue.
The network had also stated that the proposals are aimed at completely terminating the rights instead of withholding them.
The statement added that the proposal being submitted in a way, which overpowers points clearly mentioned in the constitution is rather dangerous.
The network had also urged the government to submit proposals which are beneficial, instead of proceeding with the proposals which had already been submitted.
