Minister of Education, Dr Aishath Shiham has stated that the new national curriculum which is set to be introduced in 2015 gives a special priority in maintaining the culture and tradition of the Maldives.
Speaking at the prize giving ceremony of four competitions held by Dhivehi Language Academy, Minister Aishath Shiham said that the second strategy from the eight main strategies of the new national curriculum is Maldivian culture.
She noted that many works are to be conducted in order to maintain and present the culture of the nation to the future generations. Hence, the new national curriculum would be based on such works.
The Minister also noted that the country had been blessed with something that most of the nations lack; a language, and set of letters which we could refer to as our own. She also added that we should all be very proud, for we have such a rich and extensive language.
Minister Aishath Shiham also added that it is the responsibility of us Maldivians, to love and cherish the language and noted the consequences which we would have to face if we are careless towards our language.
