Government announces that a team from the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group CMAG has been invited for constructive dialogue.
The announcement was made on the ministry’s official twitter account. According to the tweet, the government has invited the team from CMAG to visit Maldives in early February to hold constructive dialogue with the government on a broad range of issues.
This comes in the wake of British Prime Minister David Cameron’s announcement that a CMAG delegation would visit Maldives. This was brought up in a meeting between Cameron and Former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Both Nasheed and Cameron agreed that the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group visit to the Maldives next month "was an opportunity for all Commonwealth members to send a consistently strong message on the need for the Maldivian government to engage in open political dialogue and free all remaining political prisoners swiftly."
The government has earlier criticized the Commonwealth on their stand when it came to the country’s political situation. Parliament members that represent the ruling coalition have also submitted a motion with parliament, about leaving the Commonwealth.
