Hassan Ziyath on Monday was appointed as the Auditor General, following the parliament unanimously voting in favor of him earlier on the day.
Mr Ziyath was handed over the documentations of being appointed as the auditor general during a small ceremony held at the President's Office by President Abdulla Yameen.
A total of 59 members had voted in favor of Mr Ziyath during Monday's parliament sitting, with one abstention. No member voted against the decision.
Former Auditor General, Niyaz Ibrahim was terminated from his position following an amendment brought to the Audit Act. He had claimed that the amendment was passed in an attempt to drive him out of office.
